We’ve reviewed dozens of clean baby clothing brands — these are our top organic and nontoxic selections for health, comfort, and versatility across a range of price points.

Alright friends, when you’re diving headfirst into parenting, the sheer amount of things you’re expected to buy for your little one is absolutely overwhelming (and in our opinion, largely unnecessary!). One thing you won’t be able to do without even if you tried — baby clothes. You’ll need them and you’ll need a lot of them. (Cue the spills, blowouts, and growth spurts.)

Searching for cute, high-quality, nontoxic baby threads that won’t obliterate your bank account? It’s a quest.

But over the past decade or so, organic baby clothing has gone from “pricey luxury” to “actually kind of doable.” Our editors have personally reviewed dozens of organic labels and have been relieved to discover a solid range varying in style and price point. These organic baby clothing collections are not only chic and affordable, but they’re also better for your child’s skin, overall health, and the environment.

Why consider organic baby clothes?

Babies have especially sensitive skin and exposure to harmful chemicals and dyes can lead to skin irritations, allergies, and other health issues. (Anyone who’s been up in the middle of the night with a screaming infant knows — you want to eliminate as fast as possible ANY possible irritants! 😩) Organic cotton and other natural fibers are breathable and help regulate body temperature, reducing the risk of overheating, which is essential for a baby’s well-being.

There are also ethical and environmental considerations when buying organic. Organic farming practices use fewer synthetic chemicals, reduce water and soil pollution, and support biodiversity. This is good for the earth and also for the people involved in the production of the garments. Oh, and the cherry on top — natural fibers break down on their own so no worries about them hanging around forever.

Our criteria for this guide:

  • ORGANIC | Each of these brands offers baby clothing that is made from organic cotton or other natural fibers grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, and genetically modified organisms (GMOs). All use natural, nontoxic dyes.
  • COMFORT | Our editors have personally tested each of the brands on this list, and have included the brands we feel carry the softest materials and most versatile styles for easy on-and-off wear.
  • DURABILITY | Organic baby clothing is often durable and well-made, which can lead to longer-lasting pieces. These are the brands we find ourselves passing down to younger siblings (and each other’s kids!).
  • ETHICS | Each of these brands adheres to ethical and fair labor practices, ensuring that the people involved in the production of these garments are treated fairly and paid a living wage.
